The Misadventures of the Royal Runaways:
A tale of Princesses, evil Jesters, Dragons, Knights, Delivery Gnomes, chickens,
and (of course) Fairies.

Dear Izzy: What is this nonsense?
This is a book-blog.
Dear Izzy: What is a book-blog?
A book-blog is 1 part book, 1 part blog.
Dear Izzy: That’s not a very clever name now is it?
Nope. You’re probably right.
Dear Izzy: Can you explain a little further about this “1 part” nonsense?
Of course. It was a book I wrote that I have since decided to present in blog form by treating each section of a chapter as a blog post.
Dear Izzy: Why would you do that?
Oh, if only there was a simple answer for that wise question, my friend.
Two handfuls of years ago I wrote the rough, rough draft of a book about a girl who felt ugly and worthless– despite the fact she had everything going for her. I kept at the tale and brought it abroad with me to work on as part of my creative writing Masters course @ Cardiff University, Wales.
At one point it morphed into diary entries that I read out loud during open mic nights at a lovely little place called The Toucan Lounge in Cardiff city centre. There was always such GREAT feedback about the story. Naturally I decided to continue hacking at it, eventually giving it context and framework and story arches, and so on. In the end I presented part of it for my thesis. The commentary from the professor peanut gallery was good, but not fantastic.
So, I continued hacking at it. And hacking at it. And partially destroying it, and then resuscitating it, and then finally burying it.
Dear Izzy: Why wouldn’t you just publish it?
Easy Answer: At this point in life I just haven’t found the time of day to spend hunting down publishers & agents.
Cop-out Answer: I’m waiting for the right moment.
Sucky Answer: I’m lazy. It has a copyright and enough eyeballs have seen it since it’s creation, I’m not overly worried (but will sue the pants of thieving no-gooders).
Minor Honest Answer: I’m a wretched self-editor; and good trustworthy editors are hard to find. It’s a delicate relationship.
Artsy Answer: Literature is as much art with words as paintings with acrylic & brushes. Sometimes the beauty of the story is in the experience and presentation and audience interaction.
Professional-Izzy Answer: I work in community and online media. Why wouldn’t I want to share something I enjoy in some sort of community-tech-form?
Adventurous Answer: This is a unique opportunity that could open doors for it, or provide insight for it, or provide me with the cold hard truth about it…
Insecure Answer: To be honest, I feel this might be a little ‘too much’ for everyone else. I’m a nutter and with this story I really just ran with it… trying hard not to limit the wackiness (as long as it stayed in context to the overall plan). I’m worried that it’s one of those “better in Izzy’s head then on paper for the masses.”
Ya dig?
Dear Izzy: So what do you want US to do about it?
Well, read it of course. But only because you want to continue following the plot. If you read a bit and felt “eh” about it, no worries. I thank you for trying. If you read it and have something to say? SAY IT. That’s what comments are for! If you read it and loved it… PASS IT ON. Talk to people about it. Write your own and I’ll put you on my blogroll.
The sky is the limited, mine poppets. Let’s see where this puppy can go, yeah?

Izzy-
Awesome book dude. I randomly came across it today in my boredom at work. I can’t wait to read the rest of it. I love me some youth fantasy books (woot to the Chronicles of Prydain baby)
All the best to you and your lab out in Cali
